dumpster divin'

What's up guys? How's summer? Boring? Yes! Even though summer makes me lazy as all get out and feel like I'm doing nothing with my life, so much good music is around and about. I can't just ignore that! So yeah, here's a bunch of stuff I like. New mix coming up soon.

Gayngs is pretty sweet. Their music's extremely mellow, jazzy, and feels very personal, if maybe a bit sarcastic. They're hard to pin down, and the style on the album (Relayted) is very diverse and varied. Well worth a listen.
Gayngs - The Gaudy Side Of Town

James Blake is a really young dude (my age actually) making some really tight, chopped up dub step type tunes. I really like his style. He usually samples late 90's R&B and hip hop, sometimes beyond the point of recognition. He's realeased several songs now and I've liked all of them. His new ep is called CMYK and it's no exception.
James Blake - A Milli (Harmonimix) *not from the cmyk ep (just a great remix)

Shabazz Palaces don't want you to know who they are... but we kind of do. They did an interview with pitchfork and the main dude behind the project is Ishamel Butler from Digable Planets and Cherrywine. Eitherway they make very unusual, eastern influenced rap/hip hop that is intreaguing at the least. They just released two short albums -- Shabazz Palaces and Of Light. Good and good.

Here's some other MP3's! You're gonna love 'em!

Toro y Moi - Leave Everywhere
The Drums - Forever and Ever Amen
Big K.R.I.T - Country Shit
Drake feat. Lil Wayne - Miss Me
Oneohtrix Point Never - Returnal

Janelle Monae and Male Bonding

Janelle Monae is awesome. I don't know what to classify her music as, but I don't see how anyone could not like it. The new album is called "The Archandroid" and it features a really great guest list such as Big Boi from OutKast and one song even features Of Montreal. Overall this is a very very listenable, fun album and I recomend it to everybody and their moms.

Male Bonding are a really good punk rock band from England. They remind me of a mix between Japandroids and No Age and that isn't bad at all. I really like their new album. It's noisy, energetic and sounds like a party. it's also a pretty short album so you can listen to it all the way through in like thirty minutes. don't know if that's good or bad but there it is.

Ketchup

I haven't posted in a while so I thought I'd post just some info about music I've been listening to lately. So yeah that's sweet. Also some MP3s and a promise to post more often now that it's summer and especially while my girlfriend is out of the country for the next three weeks. Also I'm kinda tired, so, sorry in advance.

Tame Impala are a really awesome band from Perth, Western Australia. They're new album is called "Innerspeaker" and it sounds like Jefferson Airplane and The Beatles (at their most psychadelic) had a baby together.

Tame Impala - Desire Be, Desire Go

Dosh is another artist that's been on heavy rotation recently. His full name is Martin Luther King Chavez Dosh (which is awesome) and his music is mostly instrumental, very chill, very organic and yet electronic, and you can tell this guy loves his percussion. Souns to me like a little less choppy, little more melodic version of the best Don Caballero songs, and that ain't bad. He's good friends with Andrew Bird and Bird does a lot of instrumentation on his fifth album called "Tommy" which is out now and you should check it out.

Dosh - Subtractions

Sleigh Bells are an amazing band I've liked for a while now, but up until recently it was just by way of a few select mp3s. Now they have an album called "Treats" and it's phenomenal. I don't know what to say about it that hasn't already been said more eloquently by others but this music is loud, in your face, fun, catchy, and great for parties. Its just perfect. You should really cop this.
Sleigh Bells - Tell 'Em

The rest of the music I've been listening to heavily recently probably doesn't need much introduction. Everyone is talking about them, but rightfully so. Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma is just unbelievably good. LCD Soundsystems "This is Happening" really made me like LCD Soundsystem (I never really got the appeal before). The National's "High Violet" is fantastic and I can't wait to see them or LCD at bonnaroo! Also the new Broken Social Scene album really turned my opinion of them from mediocre to excellent. The Tallest Man on earth is amazing and if you haven't heard both albums then you absolutely should. Go right now, and do that.

Entrepreneurs - Revenge Platter

So all I know about Entrepreneurs is he's a UK producer, he's got one really great song called "Revenge Platter," and he's got an ep called Uv Been Robbed (Joking, But Not) comming out this summer and there is a trailer for it that features some random video clips and really awesome background music. Both of those things are below and they're really great.

Primary 1 - Princess

Primary 1 just released a video for his new single "Princess," and it is awesome. The video is a really simple concept that involves some tribesmen banging on water-filled barrels as if they were drums like blue man group, and Joe Flory (Primary 1) walking with a rainbow of cloned dudes in suits in toe, all right out of a Rene Margritte painting. Also they're is a princess and an eclipse. The song is amazing and makes me feel incredibly excited to see what is to come from this guy. The video is also directed by Radical Friend (the same guy who directed the video for O.N.E. by Yeasayer), which means you know it's good.
